Introduction of Rhinoplasty:
Septorhinoplasty is the surgical procedure used to correct breathing problems related to the nose (Septoplasty) or correct disfigurement resulting from trauma or birth defects (Rhinoplasty). Rhinoplasty enhances the facial harmony and proportions of nose which effects on self-esteem that imparts a psychological benefit. Most of the rhinoplasty study reports high rates of satisfaction and enhanced social confidence. The main aim of rhinoplasty is to make improvement in the shape of nose in relation to facial structures but not the perfection. Patient’s satisfaction in the long postoperative period is the ultimate goal of rhinoplasty.
Factors Affecting Success Rate of Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty has a high success rate. The most important factor that influences success is probably your choice of rhinoplasty surgeon. People are pleased with the results of cosmetic nose surgery if undertaken with realistic expectations. Mature rhinoplasty views as a way to look as good as you can for your age. The goal is to feel better about yourself. Cosmetic nose surgery can be an effective way to let someone see in the mirror a face that better reflects the way they feel. This effect on self-esteem can impart a psychological benefit that often cannot be measured by the degree of physical change.
Rhinoplasty is an operation that requires experience, good aesthetic perception, and continuous training by the surgeon. In the last decades, there has been an increasing interest in the assessment of the results of surgical procedures in several medical specialties. Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) questionnaire is screening tool for patient’s satisfaction for the aesthetic result of rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty can significantly alter the nasal appearance and improve quality of life. It is important to set realistic expectations and patient must understand what rhinoplasty can and cannot achieve. The goal is to create harmony and a natural shape. It is as much an art as a science and takes years to master.
What are the causes of Unsatisfactory Results of Rhinoplasty?
The most common issue following rhinoplasty is an unsatisfactory result. When the main reason for the surgery was functional, not cosmetic, an unsatisfactory result means that breathing remains unimproved or only minimally better. Unsatisfactory result may arise following rhinoplasty for cosmetic purpose. The reasons behind this are inexperienced rhinoplasty surgeon, unrealistic expectations and the healing nature of nasal tissues.
Nose cartilage has a memory and tends to return to its original shape. This inherent characteristic is the underlying cause of a large number of rhinoplasty failures. The more rhinoplasty techniques a surgeon masters and the more noses he treats, the less likely it is that this feature of cartilage will defeat the desired rhinoplasty outcome. A good surgeon will carefully access patient expectations at the initial meeting before surgery. This is important in avoiding disappointing results. Expectations must be realistic and achievable.
